Making IT Work For You

Cat 5e cable

Types of Copper Cable

Speed: 1 Gbps
Frequency: Up to 100 MHz
Max length: 100 meters

Cat 5e is currently the most commonly used cable in new installations. Its inner pairs are twisted together to reduce crosstalk (signals interfering with each other) between cores.

Cat 5e

Cat 6 cable

Speed: 10 Gbps (up to 55 meters), 1 Gbps (over 55 meters)
Frequency: Up to 250 MHz
Max length: 100 meters

Cat 6 is a vast improvement from Cat 5e, with an internal separator to further reduce crosstalk. We are increasingly seeing more and more Cat 6 installations now, and it will probably soon be installed more often than Cat 5e.

Cat 6

Cat 6a cable

Speed: 10 Gbps
Frequency: Up to 500 MHz
Max length: 100 meters

Signals travelling at higher frequency help to reduce crosstalk - Cat 6a is tested up to 500 MHz. Cat 6a is also shielded to prevent interference, as well as crosstalk. Cat 6a is often installed to meet specific technical requirements.

IT Support Cambridge

This type of data cabling has been the industry standard for many years, and has slowly progressed over time. Most wall sockets that you see in offices use Cat 5e or Cat 6 cabling, and connect back to a comms cabinet. ITEXS provide all of these solutions and will determine what suits your needs best.

External grade cable is also available for outdoor applications.
