A software audit compares the software licenses you own to an inventory of the actual software installed in your organization.

Auditing software enables you to automate both software inventory and software usage tracking (software metering). Using these two software audit capabilities, you can learn what software is installed and what is being used. Once you have this information, you can reconcile it with the software licenses you own. If you have too many software licenses, you may be able to save money by reducing your license count.
